Real Time Improvisation
March 31, 2024 / Taipei, Taiwan

This Sunday, March 31 at 8 PM, I’ll be taking part in a rare and unrepeatable flash cross-national improvisation performance. In recent years, experimental performances blending various art forms and music genres have gradually become popular in Taiwan, inspired by trends in major world cities. While continuing to deepen their expertise in their own artistic or musical fields, artists from various disciplines are also exploring ways to break boundaries through spontaneous, improvisational collaboration—sharing with the audience the fleeting sparks of live creation.
This Sunday’s event will feature artists including a childhood (Chinese orchestra) friend and former bandmate now returning to Taipei after living abroad, a composer I met and performed with during a California-Mexico exchange, and a German musician I’ve recently come to know who is currently based in Taipei. Whether old or new friends, from Taiwan or overseas, you’ll see from the artist list that every participant brings rich performance experience across different disciplines.
I’m especially excited to collaborate with:
- A Taiwanese-Canadian multicultural ensemble [erhu + soprano + concert curator]
- A German artist [jazz percussionist + improvisation MA + composer]
- A Mexican artist [California-based PhD composer + electronic music]
- Taiwanese artists [visual/performance/body + digital influence artist]
- A Taiwanese flute improviser
Together, we aim to create a one-of-a-kind performance and sharing experience.
